For all Catherine had once believed she could never tire of Bath, she found it hard to attend the present conversation between Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Skinner about their respective recent travels.
"I am sorry Mr. Allen did not like it," was the latter's eventual remark, "but most happy to hear you ladies did. Such a wonderful place! especially for the young people. No doubt Catherine collected any number of beaus."
"Oh, yes, I am sure she did," Mrs. Allen answered complacently before changing the subject to a new hat just bought, one which Catherine promptly volunteered to fetch.
Title from Chapter 2 of Northanger Abbey: "It is remarkable, however, that she neither insisted on Catherine’s writing by every post, nor exacted her promise of transmitting the character of every new acquaintance, nor a detail of every interesting conversation that Bath might produce."
