February 12 Prompt: Any, any, crown of iron knives, written for Sherlock Holmes.

The display of brutality was dreadful even when weighed against the combined experiences of myself and Holmes. “I can not quite believe this constitutes what is now considered art,” I mused while continuing to stare in mixed awe and disgust at the grotesque painting.

“I dare say the same and worse has been said of our own modest contributions to the realm of letters,” my friend answered with a shrug, already studying the next exhibit for clues to identify the forger we sought.
