She left the house in good company,
with her trusty sword
and valiant horse
at her side.
(The horse flatly refused to be rode,
you see,
and She didn't want to press it.)
What adventures lay in store for them,
She and her horse!
Around the huge mountain
and through the Forest of Giant Trees,
they came upon a small clearing.
"Come," She said to her horse,
who at the moment,
forgive my saying so,
was batting at a clover leaf
with his paw,
"Come and let us find
ADVENTURE!"
The horse paused in his
felicities a moment,
then yawned
turned
and strolled away,
leaving Her quite alone
in this
strange land....
"I shall find it by
myself!"
She called after the long
tail
retreating into the pansy bed.
A monstrous Beast
approached Her
just then,
so as to distract her from
her unfaithful
companion.
"Prepare to die,
Cruel Dragon!"
She bellowed her
battle Cry,
drew her sword,
and ran at the
Enemy,
who flew away into
the area of the
Unknown.
"He was too little
for a real fight,
anyway,"
She consoled herself.
It was growing dark,
and suddenly,
the brave Heroine found
She had lost her Way.
A Great Fright stole on Her
in such a way as never
had before.
"Stripes?" She croaked
in Her smallest voice to her
disloyal stead. "Are
you
there
? "
Suddenly, the porch light
was switched on and
Mother came out.
"Supper, Theresa." Mother called.
A cat jumped out of the flowers just then,
and Theresa noticed that the baking pin
she had borrowed was dirty.
She smiled.
There was time enough for
more
ADVENTURES
tomorrow.
