She should feel more afraid, kept from sleep by her sister-in-law’s hysterics and the unknown quality of the stranger hiding with them in this meadow. She teetered on the edge of an emotional revelation, as the world itself hung in balance between the Martians and mankind, or that evening wavered between a terrestrial sunset and the unearthly perse fog clouding the sky.
A sudden burst of viridian light on the horizon rendered these deliberations meaningless, for there was even more terror to come.
